In 2014, CReSIS fielded a 5-meter-wingspan radio-controlled aircraft with a miniaturized version of its IPR system. We had to start with a blank slate to develop a system that was small and light enough to fit on an inexpensive UAV. We knew we couldn’t do the IPR with off-the-shelf systems.
