75% of plug-in vehicles sold in the US in 2018 were made in the US

For every year except 2011, the United States has produced the majority of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) sold in the United States, according to the US Department of Energy (DOE). In 2011, 55% of the PEVs sold in the United States were produced in Japan, 43% in the United States, and 2% in France.

DOE: US Light-duty electric vehicle miles traveled reached 13.7 billion miles in 2020

The number of electric vehicle miles traveled (eVMT) has been increasing each year since the introduction of the first mass market plug-in vehicles in late 2010. Beginning in 2014, annual all-electric vehicle eVMT has exceeded that of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in the US, reaching a new high of nearly 10 billion miles in 2020.

GM and Toyota plug-in hybrids again lead plug-in sales from major OEMs in September

In September, GM’s plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volt (2,851 units sold) and Toyota’s plug-in hybrid Prius PHV (1,652 units sold) continued to lead sales in the US of plug-in vehicles from major OEMs. The battery-electric Nissan Leaf followed with 984 units, a decrease from Sep 2011, but its best performance since then.
