Audi is currently hiring an additional 100 engineers for its ePerformance development effort—a project house for the development of an integrated concept for electric drives in automobiles. Those 100 hires will boost the number of newly hired specialists at Audi in 2009 to 400.

A pilot plant in Dresden has started production of the synthetic fuel Audi e-diesel using water, CO 2 and green power—i.e., The energy technology company sunfire is Audi’s project partner and the plant operator. Dr. Johanna Wanka put the first five liters into her official car, an Audi A8 3.0 power-to-liquid (PtL).

One of the earlier all-electric concept cars from a major maker was the Audi R8 e-tron, first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009. Audi has consistently said it will build up to 1,000 of the battery-electric supercar and sell them--for a high price--to buyers who want a high-performance electric supercar.

He was appointed Executive Vice-President of Production at SEAT in 2002, becoming Deputy President of the brand in 2009, and was subsequently named Group Chief Officer for the Environment, Energy and New Business Areas in 2012.
