The US Department of Energy (DOE) partnered with ConocoPhillips and the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) on the test, which was the first field trial of a methane hydrate production methodology whereby CO 2 was exchanged in situ with the methane molecules within a methane hydrate structure.

The following is a summary of results obtained from testing the H2GO™ system on a 2007 Lincoln Navigator with a Ford 5.4 CO2 production is a function of fuel burned per hour and the CO2 emissions will decrease in the same percentage as mileage increases (i.e. Litre Engine (the Ford family 4.6 litre engines show similar results).

Nissan is reviewing its long-term carbon dioxide (CO2) emission targets and according to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) global CO2 concentration in the atmosphere should be stablised below 450ppm. Now it will introduce a clean-diesel engine into the Japanese market in spring 2010.
