In Japan, the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) and JFE Steel Corporation have built a medium-scale ferro coke production facility with a daily production capacity of 300 tons and begun demonstration testing. Process flow of ferro coke. Ferro coke will be produced at the new facility until fiscal year 2022.

Southern Company, El Paso Exploration & Production, the Geological Survey of Alabama, and the University of Alabama are all participating in the field test, known as the Black Warrior CO 2 Storage Project. Coal in the Black Warrior Basin has the potential to sequester 1.1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas from these coal seams.
