Blue Marble Biomaterials, a specialty biochemical manufacturer ( earlier post ), has closed on the purchase of the former GTC Oats Inc. facility in Missoula, Montana. The purchase includes 3.81 acres of land, a 19,000 square foot building complex, and parking stalls for more than 100 employees.

Proterra has sold its Catalyst buses to StarMetro/Florida State University, University of Montana, Duke University and Alabama A&M University. With this order, the University of Georgia joins colleges and universities nationwide that are moving to battery-electric campus buses.

StarMetro, the city of Tallahassee’s public transit system, has agreed to purchase 22 Proterra Catalyst FC buses to service Florida State University (FSU), bringing the StarMetro fleet to 27 battery-electric buses. Proterra has also sold its Catalyst buses to the University of Montana, Duke University and Alabama A&M University.

As of the beginning of August, 22 states had joined the RFP, indicating their intention to purchase CNG vehicles for use in state fleets. The RFP was coordinated by the National Association of State Procurement Officials, which leverages the purchasing power of states by aggregating purchases on a variety of products.

A core group of 15 commercial airlines has signed non-binding memoranda of understanding (MOUs) for negotiating purchases from two different producers of synthetic jet fuel: AltAir Fuels LLC and RenTech Inc. These alternative fuels will be more environmentally friendly, on a life cycle basis, than today’s petroleum-based jet fuels.

ChargeWest and Utah Clean Cities have formed a coalition of at least 21 different partners from eight states, including Montana, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona, and New Mexico, as well as two national organizations, the Department of Energy’s Vehicle Technologies Program and the National Association of State Energy Officials.
