Blue Marble Biomaterials, a specialty biochemical manufacturer ( earlier post ), has closed on the purchase of the former GTC Oats Inc. facility in Missoula, Montana. The site, previously a wet extraction processing plant for the creation of food ingredients, will become Blue Marble’s first large-scale commercial biorefinery.

A core group of 15 commercial airlines has signed non-binding memoranda of understanding (MOUs) for negotiating purchases from two different producers of synthetic jet fuel: AltAir Fuels LLC and RenTech Inc. J0.01) formally voted upon and passed a new fuel specification that will enable use of synthetic fuels in commercial aviation.

The contract was for 100,000 gallons of HRJ-8 beginning 2009 through 2010, and includes an option to purchase an additional 100,000 gallons between June 2010 and December 2012. The camelina for the contract and test flight was primarily grown in 2009 and harvested in September 2009 by farmers in Montana.
