PowerGenix, the manufacturer of high performance, rechargeable Nickel-Zinc (NiZn) batteries ( earlier post ), has entered an exclusive agreement with PSI Acquisition, LLC to supply battery cells for UP-Stealth, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for the traffic industry.

As batteries get cheaper and smaller, and motors get light enough to fit inside wheels, we’ll be able to upgrade smaller cars. We won’t need new power plants, since we have enough off-peak electricity to recharge as many retrofits as we can build. Tuesday night, President Obama will speak to the nation about the Gulf catastrophe.

Recharging a battery can take 5-8 hours, but costs only a few cents a day. It is no sweat to restart, so the temptation to zip through a red traffic light, menacing people as you do so, is removed.
