The Moroccan government is in talks to attract more electric battery manufacturers as it seeks to adapt its growing automotive sector to an increasing demand for electric vehicles, industry and trade minister Ryad Mezzour said. The automotive sector tops Morocco’s industrial exports at USD 14 billion in 2023, up 27%.

After an engineering study, Managem Group plans to invest in the construction of a factory located within the Guemassa industrial complex, Morocco in order to transform cobalt ore into cobalt sulfate. The Group aims to reduce the carbon footprint of its batteries by 20% by 2025 and by 35% by 2030, compared to 2020.

Elcora Advanced Materials ( earlier post ) has engaged Lab 4 to begin the test work and process design for its Ermazon Vanadium Project in Morocco with the goal of production of vanadium pentoxide. This work will progress in three stages: Initial characterization to prove the physical processing of the vanadinite source materials.

Major cathode material producer Pulead (China) and phosphate leader Prayon (Belgium) have entered into an agreement to form a joint venture for the manufacture and sale of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) under licence from LiFePO 4 +C Licensing LLC. The joint venture will help meet the increasing global demand for licensed LFP.

European ultracapacitor manufacturer Skeleton Technologies will join French firm Flying Whales’ program to build a 60-ton Large Capacity Airship (LCA60T, for the global transport market. For that purpose Morocco will become the “third parent country” of Flying Whales. Industrial production is expected to start in 2021.
