The 2022 Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) is powered by a 2.5-liter That number jumps to 105 MPGe, or miles per gallon equivalent, when combining electricity and gasoline. With a plug-in option the Escape can drive all-electric (for more than 40 miles we found). 244 total miles, with 144 all-electric miles.

In the analysis, EPA uses overall fuel economy in mpg equivalent (mpge) and tailpipe CO 2 emission values. In MY 2013, there were 11 EVs and 4 PHEVs available in the market; MY 2014 has 12 (counting the Tesla Model S 60 and 80 as one) EVs on the market and 10 PHEVs, along with the lone CNG car, the Honda Civic.

Its 42-mile EV range, its 600-mile total range and relatively low price tag have made the PHEV an instant smash hit. The obvious next step after creating a popular RAV4 PHEV would be stepping up to an all-electric version. Toyota has designed the PHEV to be VERY inexpensive to maintain. Demand is intense.
