There are now more than 29,000 electric vehicles registered in New York City and Westchester, including 1,262 added in February, the most recent month for which data are available, according to Con Edison, the electricity, gas and steam utility for New York CIty and Westchester County, NY.

An additional $30 million is now available through New York State’s Drive Clean Rebate program to encourage more consumers to lease or purchase an all-electric car or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. New rebate levels as of 30 June 2021 will be: EV Range/Price. 200 miles or more. 40 - 199 miles.

This move is part of the City’s efforts to phase out its use of regular diesel. The City plans to bid a long-term contract to purchase renewable diesel following a successful six-month demonstration period in which the City tested nearly one million gallons of renewable diesel in City fleet vehicles.

Cuomo announced that $5 million is available as part of the first rebate designed specifically for the installation of electric vehicle charging stations at workplaces, office buildings, multi-family apartment buildings, and public locations such as theaters, malls, parks and retail locations.

Governor Kathy Hochul today (D-NY) announced that New York State conditionally awarded the 810 megawatt (MW) Empire Wind 1 and the 924 MW Sunrise Wind from its fourth offshore wind solicitation. They’ll reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 3 million metric tons annually, the equivalent annual emissions of over 740,000 cars.
