Wind and solar parks produce a large portion of their energy. Then, as now, wind farms are operating off the world’s coasts—but not all of these offshore sites are connected to the mainland via underwater power cables. Some of the wind farms instead sit in clusters more than 100 kilometers out at sea.

McPhy Energy, a France-based developer and manufacturer of solid state hydrogen storage, presented the first system coupling an industrial-scale hydrogen generator with a 100 kg solid state hydrogen storage unit. ENERTRAG and wind-hydrogen solutions. McPhy and ENERTRAG will work jointly to develop economic wind-hydrogen solutions.

The Compagnie Nationale du Rhône (CNR), France’s leading producer of 100% renewable electricity, and Renault signed a partnership agreement at the Lyon International Motor Show. CNR is France’s second largest electricity producer and its foremost producer of exclusively renewable energy.

The production hall uses renewable energy and reduces water consumption and waste significantly. However, today’s production grids are powered by alternating current—which has to be converted.

The carbon-free rigs will pack 50 kilos of hydrogen zapped from water using electricity from the refinery’s dedicated solar power plant. The 124-megawatt solar plant adjacent to Korea Zinc’s Townsville refinery, completed in 2018, cut a quarter of the coal-heavy grid power it had been using to run its power-intensive electrolytic process.
