The Volkswagen Group and Greece have agreed to establish a mobility system on the Mediterranean island of Astypalea. To that end, the current transport system on the island will transition to electric vehicles and renewable power generation. This alone will help to significantly reduce the vehicle fleet on the island.

An in-house study by environmental NGO Transport & Environment (T&E) has found that the luxury cruise brands owned by Carnival Corporation & PLC emitted in 2017 in European seas alone 10 times more SO x than all of Europe’s 260+ million passenger vehicles. Cruise ships also emit NO x equivalent to 15% of Europe’s car fleet every year.
