HyMethShip seeks to fuel ship engines with hydrogen from methanol

Green Car Congress

The EU-funded HyMethShip project developed a system that innovatively combined a membrane reactor, a CO 2 capture system, a storage system for CO 2 and methanol as well as a hydrogen-fueled combustion engine to power ships. The bottom part shows how hydrogen for the engine is obtained from methanol in the reactor (blue arrow).

Fraunhofer developing process to ferment steel exhaust gases to fuels and chemicals

Green Car Congress

Fraunhofer researchers in Germany have developed a process for the conversion of CO-rich exhaust gases from steel plants into fuels and specialty chemicals. In addition to the exhaust gases, syngas—similar gas mixtures from home and industrial waste incineration—can also be used for the engineered process.

MAHLE developing portfolio of solutions for fuel cell drives in commercial vehicles

Green Car Congress

When designing commercial vehicles with a fuel cell drive, the high hydrogen storage pressures of around 700 bar are not the only challenge. Fuel cells are also sensitive to oil admixtures. The electric compressor used to compress the supply air flow must therefore be oil-free. Exhaust pathway. Compressor.

Mærsk, Wallenius Wilhelmsen, BMW Group and others partner to explore blend of lignin and ethanol for sustainable shipping fuel

Green Car Congress

As for lignin, the team said: The production of marine biofuels can potentially be integrated into a biorefinery focused on bioethanol production from e.g. pulp & paper processing or 2nd generation lignocellulosics, where the residual lignin waste can serve as a feedstock for further fuel upgrading. The oxygen content is lowered to.
