Royal Academy of Engineering and Highview create 5-year research chair in liquid air energy storage

Green Car Congress

LAES has the potential to drive the development of variable renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power, due to its ability to convert excess/off-peak electricity into multi megawatts hours of stored energy. When power is required, liquid air is drawn from the tanks, pumped to high pressure and heated.

INEES report shows intelligent integration of EVs reduces power fluctuations, but not currently economically viable

Green Car Congress

The INEES research project, which ran from 1 June 2012 to 31 December 2015, investigated the possibility of achieving a balancing and stabilizing effect on the power grid using a pool of electric vehicles. The vehicles could store excess electricity as well as put surplus energy back into the power grid.
