The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and Southwest Research Institute are collaborating to improve storage materials for hydrogen fuels with a hybrid metal-carbon microstructure that combines both chemical and physical hydrogen storage mechanisms. The hydrogen will be chemically and physically absorbed and desorbed.

The newly formed Scuderi Split-Cycle (SSC) Engine Consortium is having its first meeting at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in San Antonio, Texas on 23 January. The fuel cells will do the work normally done by a small diesel engine, which keeps the cargo at the proper temperature while the trucks are making deliveries. Each of the four trucks will still be equipped with a main diesel engine that actually powers the truck. This is a great application for a fuel cell. —Kriston Brooks.
