The US currently offers federal tax incentives of 10% of the purchase price up to $2,500. Pike notes that essentially all NEVs use deep cycle lead-acid batteries due to their lower cost of between $100 to $200 per kWh. Private consumers in North America are typically older, and use the NEV as a second or third vehicle.

According to Hall, one materials handling equipment manufacturer is projecting a purchase of up to 250 of the 36V, 450-Farad (10kW) EDLC Energy Reservoir System, or “EERS” modules. The use of the module also prevents the battery from deep cycling, extending the life of the battery.

The Nautilus E30 uses a 336V traction battery pack comprising flooded, deep cycle lead acid batteries with a square tubular positive plate design for maximum exposure to the electrolyte. The E30 uses a 100 hp (75 kW) continuous rated 230 volt AC vector duty electric motor connected to a flux vector variable frequency controller.
