Sandia National Laboratories’ Battery Abuse Testing Laboratory is undergoing a major renovation so Sandia researchers can test larger batteries for electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Those studies included 12 years of testing for the FreedomCAR program and the US Advanced Battery Consortium.

PECO is expanding its fleet with new natural gas and hybrid electric models. The utility is participating in a national consortium that recently was awarded a federal stimulus grant to purchase plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and the company is buying more trucks to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) as well.

Nissan appears intent on opening up a market for mid-price range electric cars within two years. The other carmakers domestic and foreign have less firm but well press-released plans for plug-ins.

Suzuki Gran Vitara A t least, that is what Nicholas Kristof of the NY Times has suggested in his belief that Plug-Ins are today's answer to tomorrow's needs. He also makes the point, that plug ins will provide more energy security and less global warming. The cars I'm talking about are known as " plug-in hybrids."
