The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), a subset of the electric car, combines a primary electric motor with a much smaller back-up engine fueled with a hydrocarbon/biofuel mix. (In In this paper PHEV refers solely to the long-range PHEV of 60 miles (100 km) electric-only range.) It is much more than that.

Not all were, of course, as there is still plenty of interest around gasoline-propelled cars, SUVs and trucks.

Aston Martin DBX PHEV and EV – electrified versions of AM’s first SUV on the cards. No surprises there are promises of big performance for a PHEV due late in 2022 or early 2023.

Volkswagen has launched its second plug-in hybrid based on a high-volume production model: the Passat GTE, available either as a sedan or Variant (wagon)—the first plug-in hybrid from Volkswagen to be sold as either. By 2022, PHEV sales are predicted to climb to almost 3.3 Volkswagen brand major plug-in hybrids.

Honing in on passenger cars (hatchbacks, sedans, wagons, coupes and convertibles) reveals that 7.2 Last year was a record for EV sales in Australia. No surprises given they’re coming off a low base. 22% of luxury cars are EVs. It’s likely a mix of both.
