The technology takes energy from the grid and converts it to direct current (DC) voltage. Once the energy is transferred to the secondary coil across the air gap it is converted back to DC, charging the vehicle’s battery pack. —Omer Onar. Researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have utilized a series of simulations to model the performance of twin-engine hybrid-electric general-aviation propulsion systems. We’re harnessing only a small fraction of that energy but we currently don’t have electrical storage systems that can compete with that.
