A New Energy-Efficient Hydrogel Pulls Water From Air

Cars That Think

Using a new kind of hydrogel material, researchers at the University of Texas at Austin have pulled water out of thin air at temperatures low enough to be achieved with sunlight. Atmospheric water harvesting draws water from humidity in the air. The material is a hydrogel, a polymer network that naturally retains a lot of water.

Five Cool Tech Demos From the ARPA-E Summit

Cars That Think

Chilldyne optimized the cold plate using corkscrew-shaped metal channels, called turbulators, that force water around them “like little tornadoes,” maximizing the heat absorbed, says Harrington. Emily Waltz Mining leaves behind piles of waste after the commercially viable material is extracted.

DOE announces $29M in funding for fusion energy technology development

Green Car Congress

GAMOW teams will work to close multiple fusion-specific technological gaps that will be needed to connect a net-energy-gain “fusion core," once it is ready, to a deployable, commercially attractive fusion system. The vacuum technology needed to operate a commercial fusion power plant does not currently exist, however.
