Todays hybrids have small battery packs and cannot be recharged from the utility grid system. Green Star Products is not in competition with Toyota or any other major automobile manufacturer because it is targeting a different market. Toyota is presently planning to modify its Prius model to be a plug-in hybrid in the near future.

While a series hybrid is good, the Toyota Prius gets 100 miles per gallon because after the 20 miles of pure EV mode, it kicks into a hybrid-electric car. Toyota is basically 100 miles per gallon. If you charge up the Toyota Prius PHEV you would get 200 miles per gallon and 40 mile EV range; the same as the Volt.

The new plug-in vehicle will be able to exceed highway speed limits, go 100 miles on a charge and recharge in four to eight hours using a 220-volt line, similar to those for clothes dryers, said Mark Perry, director of product planning for Nissan North America. Furthermore, changing the battery pack on say a Toyota Prius often costs a fortune, at least in most European countries, so such cars better be VERY cheap, but they’re not. Current batteries in new Toyota hybridsare ~$3000 if they need to be replaced. None of the new electric cars are planning to use old-tech lead acid batteries.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles.
