Yamaha and Sumitomo demo on-board thermoelectric generator for CO2 reduction

Green Car Congress

a Sumitomo Corporation Group company, jointly demonstrated a new waste heat recovery system based on a thermoelectric generator (TEG), which generates electrical power via exhaust gas heat. There were notable installation restrictions for the TEG unit, and the gas temperature at the exhaust inlet pipe could not reach the target value.

Soletair demo plant produces renewable hydrocarbon fuel from CO2 captured from the air

Green Car Congress

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) are beginning testing of the Soletair demo plant, which uses air-captured carbon dioxide to produce renewable fuels and chemicals. The system produces high-purity hydrogen gas at elevated pressures. Phase 4: Mobile synthesis (MOBSU).

Naturgy and Enagás studying production of green hydrogen from 350 MW of wind power in Asturias

Green Car Congress

The project’s planned renewable power production is estimated to save more than 200,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions per year. The technology will first be deployed on a demo scale with 50 MW offshore and 100 MW onshore wind power, as well as a 5MW offshore electrolyzer and another 100-MW onshore electrolyzer.

JFE Steel and NEDO begin demo testing of ferro coke production at medium-scale; reducing ironmaking energy consumption and CO2 emissions by 10% each

Green Car Congress

Super-fine metallic iron contained in the ferro coke becomes a catalyst in a gasification reaction (C + CO 2 = 2CO) between CO 2 and coke (C), which significantly improves regeneration of reducing gas (CO).

US Navy demos recovery of CO2 and production of H2 from seawater, with conversion to liquid fuel; “Fuel from Seawater”

Green Car Congress

The test provides a proof-of-concept for an NRL-developed process to extract CO 2 and produce hydrogen gas from seawater, subsequently catalytically converting the CO 2 and H 2 into fuel by a gas-to-liquids process. David Drab used a novel liquid hydrocarbon fuel to power the aircraft’s unmodified two-stroke internal combustion engine.
