DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist of Deutsche Post DHL Group, says it will be neutralizing the carbon emissions of all less-than-container load (LCL) ocean freight shipments from 1 January 2021. To fight against climate change, the transport sector needs true decarbonization.

Volkswagen is the first automaker to transport most of its new vehicles overseas using low-emission LNG ships. The further decarbonization of shipping will result in substantial CO 2 reductions, with the use of liquid natural gas enabling Volkswagen to cut the ships’ CO 2 emissions by up to 25% percent (tank-to-wake).

This deal will see DHL Express become the first cargo operator to use Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel on flights departing from SFO and will enable them to contribute to their climate protection target to reduce all logistics-related emissions to zero by the year 2050.

The fuel, jointly developed by Volkswagen, the Coburg University and other project partners, contains up to 33% renewable components based exclusively on residual and waste materials and enables CO 2 savings of at least 20% compared to conventional diesel thanks to the use of biofuels. Volkswagen employees tested the new fuel initially.
