MAHLE criticizes EC CO2 regulation proposal for abandoning technology neutrality

Green Car Congress

Last week, the European Commission adopted a package of proposals to make the EU’s climate, energy, land use, transport and taxation policies fit for reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels (Fit for 55). Commenting on the set of proposals, automotive component supplier MAHLE noted that climate protection is the key task for the shaping of mobility, and said that it welcomed the definition of a path towards climate neutrality.

The core of the plan is made up of research initiatives, which consist of broad topics (Health, Environmental Justice, Economics, Air Quality, Mobile Sources, Climate and Sustainable Communities) defining CARB’s most pressing research priorities. When our research is better focused to benefit the most vulnerable among us it will lead to policies and programs that better protect all Californians from the harmful effects of air pollution and climate change.

Uniper to make Wilhelmshaven German hub for green hydrogen; green ammonia import terminal

Green Car Congress

The generated climate-friendly hydrogen will primarily be used to supply local industry, but it will also be possible to feed it into the national hydrogen network. It is essential that Germany and Europe remain industrial powerhouses: If we want to achieve this and still hit our ambitious climate protection targets, we need hydrogen to power sectors such as steel production, the chemicals industry or in freight, shipping and air transport.

NExBTL Pilot Test Shows Lower NOx and CO2 Emissions with Renewable Diesel

Green Car Congress

A study conducted by Deutsche Post DHL showed that more than 80% of all CO 2 emissions from freight transport are generated on medium- to long-distance routes. Estimates indicate that the transport volumes on these routes will double by the year 2020. At the same time, the requirements for companies are becoming more demanding regarding climate protection.

A change in energies used for transport must also be successful now; for this to happen, we urgently need stable framework conditions such as the mandatory blending rate for advanced biofuels being discussed at EU level. Hence cellulosic ethanol can make a significant contribution to climate protection, so making it for us a building block of sustainable mobility. The resulting cellulosic ethanol saves around 95% of CO2 emissions when compared to fossil gasoline.
