California ARB and NOAA Collaborating in $20M Research on Interaction of Air Pollution and Climate Change; One Atmosphere Approach

Green Car Congress

Schematic diagram of the trade-offs between the implications for regional air quality and global climate change of new policies for management of the atmosphere. In the CalNex 2010 study outlined here, NOAA researchers are studying several issues at the heart of the coupled air quality and climate change problems.

Carbonaceous aerosol particles predominate in the total mass of particles, consisting of a large number of chemical species and can be divided into organic aerosol (OA) and black carbon (BC). The IPCC will adopt and publish its new assessment report ( AR6 Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis ) in early August 2021.

Final session on international mercury convention this week expected to culminate in agreement; UNEP Global Mercury Assessment 2013 finds industrial source Hg emissions may be rising

Green Car Congress

The fifth and final session of negotiations on the establishment of an international mercury convention—International Negotiating Committee on Mercury (INC5)—is taking place this coming week in Geneva. UNEP produced its first Global Mercury Assessment in 2002 and a subsequent study in 2007.

Impacts of heavy metals and persistent organic compounds on human health are also quantified, primarily in terms of additional cancer incidence. Estimating the magnitude of costs associated with future climate change impacts is very uncertain. The damage cost resulting from emitting one kg of organic micro-pollutants (e.g.

Shouldn’t We ALL Be Going to PowerShift 2009?

Creative Greenius

Maybe you didn’t know there was a coal-fired power plant spewing greenhouse gases, mercury and a very bad vibe just blocks from Capitol Hill. The Greenius predicts the creative and highly organized protest is going to rock the media. But America is going to know all about it in a couple of weeks.

Stanford launches major new natural gas research initiative

Green Car Congress

Compared with burning coal, natural gas emits about half the carbon dioxide and substantially less soot, mercury and sulfur. The Natural Gas Initiative has begun funding early stage, exploratory research, following a “seed grant” model used by Stanford’s Precourt Institute for Energy, one of NGI’s hosting organizations.
