As part of C40 cities’ commitment to reduce GHG emissions and share best practise, the City of Hong Kong will host a workshop on Electric Vehicles in November 2010.

In fact back in 2010 that’s why the County of Los Angeles Health Department gave our South Bay Bicycle Coalition (SBBC) a $250,000 grant. We need the Benjamin to pay for certified instructors to teach bike safety classes to elementary school kids and to conduct rules of the road and safe biking workshops for adults.

The law passed back in July of this year, but none of the money is flowing yet to anyone in my city of Torrance or my county of Los Angeles. After I wrote a letter to Don Knabe’s office, my county supervisor, I got a phone call from Howard Choy in the Energy Management Division for Los Angeles County.

In the last ten days I took Kathleen Jacecko’s terrific TeachingGreen workshop, “Tooling Around Town in (Green) Style&# at the Unitarian Church in Palos Verdes and learned things about the transportation issue I did not know. The put on very well run workshops for adults and in-class presentations for kids.

The Scoping Plan describes the comprehensive range of efforts California must take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020 and meet the state’s long-term goals to combat climate change. AB 32 requires the Scoping Plan to be updated every five years. Recommended transportation actions beyond 2020.

Here in the United States our President and Congress haven’t shown the leadership or sense of urgency necessary to prevent a climate catastrophe and they’ve given the people no hope for their children’s future at the national level. We can efficiently and economically create change. We want to move swiftly.
