Channel NewsAsia recently reported on the case of a Tesla Model S owner in Singapore who, rather than receiving the Carbon Emissions-based Vehicle Scheme (CEVS) rebate he expected of S$15,000 (US$10,841) was hit with a CEVS surcharge of S$15,000 for having high carbon emissions. The study, set in Singapore, suggests that better air quality will bring about climate co-benefits in reducing electricity generation via lower household demand, and thus mitigating carbon emissions. However, only 8% of the tropics’ three billion people currently have air conditioners, compared to 76% in Singapore.

The project supports WEC’s ambition to reduce the CO 2 emissions from its electric generating fleet by 60% by the end of 2025, and by 80% by the end of 2030 from 2005 levels, and to be net carbon-neutral by 2050. One engine will be selected for the test program, during which time it will continue to deliver power to the grid.

Hyundai Motor Group presented the HMG Smart City master model at the 2022 World Cities Summit in Singapore. To ensure carbon neutrality, the city’s primary power source will be hydrogen, distributed through the smart grid pipelines to power buildings through hydrogen fuel cell generators.
