Way back in late 2008, it was the Chinese BYD F3DM, with a lithium-ion battery pack and a combined parallel and series hybrid powertrain inserted into the Corolla-knockoff body of the BYD F3--China's best-selling. Remember the world's very first production plug-in hybrid?

Chinese automakers are disappointed with the sales figures of hybrid and electric vehicles, according to a report in the Global Times. In addition, BYD said that it has only sold 54 electric vehicles E6 and 290 F3DM hybrids between January and October.
