GM Spring Hill to run on 100% solar power by 2022

Green Car Congress

General Motors expects its Spring Hill Manufacturing plant will be powered by 100% solar energy beginning in late 2022. A green tariff agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority is expected to supply up to 100 megawatts of solar energy per year, or the amount of electricity consumed by 18,000 United States households annually.

Test of Planet-Cooling Scheme Could Start in 2022

Cars That Think

Up there, 10 to 50 kilometers above the Earth’s surface, ozone molecules absorb the sun’s ultraviolet light, protecting life far below. The proposal calls for what’s known as “solar geoengineering”: cooling the planet by deflecting sunlight that would otherwise strike the planet.

Study: Urban grime releases NOx when exposed to sunlight

Green Car Congress

Researchers at the University of Toronto have found that natural sunlight triggers the release of smog-forming NO x compounds from the grime that typically coats buildings, statues and other outdoor surfaces in urban areas. Among these compounds are nitrogen oxides. —James Donaldson.

Cutting Non-CO2 Pollutants Can Delay Abrupt Climate Change; The Fast Action Climate Agenda

Green Car Congress

HFCs are powerful greenhouse gases originally developed as substitutes for ozone-depleting chemicals. A binding legal agreement exists that can cut HFCs now—the Montreal Protocol ozone treaty—and many alternatives to HFCs have already been developed and are waiting for the right regulatory incentive from the Montreal Protocol to be deployed.

WMO reports GHG concentrations at highest in 800K years

Green Car Congress

This system builds on the long-term experience of WMO in greenhouse gas instrumental measurements and atmospheric modelling. To optimize the use of solar, wind and hydropower production, new types of weather, climate and hydrological services are needed. Its atmospheric concentration in 2016 was 328.9 parts per billion.

Study finds modifying urban form may be a strategy to reduce air pollution

Green Car Congress

Transportation is one of the largest contributors to urban air pollution for pollutants such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, benzene, ozone, and fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ). Our work builds on prior research by employing a much larger sample of global cities, allowing for the exploration of factors (i.e.,
