The Smart “#1”, having first delivered in noticeable volume in December, had personal-best deliveries of 313 units in March. There were a few newcomer BEV models visible further down the sales charts.

Perhaps the first electric sub-brand was BMW’s i series, which included the i3 hatchback and i8 plug-in hybrid sports coupe. BMW’s electric i sub-brand started with the quirky i3. Not easy or cheap, but it has worked so far. Create a New EV Company. Tesla is the poster child for this option, and so far, it’s working.
