Prototype Saturn Vue PHEV plugging in to a Coulomb Chargepoint ( earlier post ) in San Jose, CA. In a post on GM’s FastLane blog, Vice Chairman Tom Stephens said that the company will apply plug-in hybrid technology to one of the four core brands remaining after the restructuring: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC.

GM has cancelled its recently announced compact Buick crossover, which would have offered the plug-in hybrid system originally targeted for the Saturn VUE. And we decided that the important plug-in hybrid technology would be applied to another vehicle, at no delay, that we’ll discuss in the very near future.

InsideGreentech reports that Toronto Star reporter Tyler Hamilton posted on his personal blog that battery maker A123 Systems has acquired Canadian plug-in converter Hymotion. It would certainly be a good thing for A123 to have a reason beyond its relationship with GM to be interested in making batteries for plug-in cars.

The Saturn version of the two-mode plug-in hybrid at the Milford Proving Grounds. On 11 August, GM invited approximately 75 journalists and auto analysts to spend a day learning about the new GM. GM also gave a tour of the pre-production area where we could see production-intent Chevy Volts being assembled.

GM is holding a live webchat tonight at 7:30 PM ET with Andrew Farah, Volt vehicle chief engineer, and Pam Fletcher, global Voltec and plug-in hybrid electric powertrain chief engineer, from Kapuskasing, Ontario, where they are cold-weather testing the Chevrolet Volt. So at night, we plug-in some vehicles and some we don’t.

General Motors (GM) has pulled the plug on plans to introduce in the US a new Buick SUV which would have included a plug-in hybrid version following negative feedback during a showcase to employees, potential customers, dealers, media and analysts. The cancellation comes just two weeks after the plans were announced.
