Controlled Power Technologies (CPT) is developing a 48-volt version of its 12 volt electric supercharger based on its variable torque enhancement system known as VTES. At 48 volts, a VTES electric supercharger will transform 7kW of battery power into a highly boosted charge of air for downsized gasoline and diesel engines.

A quick note on power compared to energy. The standard unit of electrical power is the watt, which is defined as a current of one ampere, at a voltage of one volt. More simply, volts x amps = watts. In the UK, the standard wall socket delivers 240 volts. Is controls all aspects of power generation and use.

Lutz was a staunch supporter of GM’s plug-in hybrid of the time, the Cruze-based Volt. & And the batteries would definitely need charged often, as the VTRUX line was claimed to have around a 35-mile range on battery power. The trucks could power tools on a job site with standard 120- and 240-volt outlets.

Some of the new and updated models, such as a battery-powered version of Geelys Panda hatchback, may hit the market as early as October, and in some cases they might carry price tags low enough for farmers and other rural residents with limited financial means. GM plans to launch the Volt in China in 2011. in late 2010.

In Europe, the high cost of electricity, along with the relatively low number of miles driven (compared with corresponding figures for China and the US), will continue to make ICEs the powertrains of choice for most consumers through 2025. The low cost of gasoline in the US will yield similar results.
