The hybrid drives combine a modern diesel engine with an electric motor and batteries to recover braking energy, reducing fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions by up to 25%. In addition, the ability to run under battery power only can reduce noise pollution in city areas and stations by 75% (20 dB(A)).

The project will focus on driver behaviour and the operational side of running a fleet of zero-emission battery-powered cars. Hyundai called the ix35 Fuel Cell its “halo vehicle” in the Blue Drive sub-brand, the badge worn by Hyundai’s cleanest vehicles, including Sonata Hybrid, i20 Blue Drive and BlueOn, Hyundai’s battery-powered i10. Hyundai has already signed contracts with cities in Denmark and Sweden to lease the ix35 Fuel Cell to municipal fleets.

Denmark is planning a hydrogen island designed to generate about 1 million tonnes of offshore hydrogen starting in 2030. Airplanes, for example, won’t be able to fly long distances on battery power. Conventional, or gray, hydrogen: $1.50 H2Mare will also look into initial strategies for managing a small island grid.
