AllCell Technologies ( earlier post ) has teamed with two Purdue University engineering students to produce an electric motorcycle with leading performance and drive range. Further support for the vehicle development was provided by Tesla Motors and Delphi Corporation.

Broadly, Navigant expects expansion in both the higher end of the market (thereby putting competitive pressure on Tesla Motors), as Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Mercedes, Saab, and Volvo introduce their first plug-in cars. Tesla Motors will have a bumpy year. Electric motorcycles breakout.

CEC also awarded $1,815,123 to Zero Motorcycles; $10 million to Tesla Motors; and $2,230,595 to Quallion LLC out of the same program. Wrightspeed has shifted the sync function that used to be performed by mechanical means into software control of electronics, driving the electric motor with precision.

The California Energy Commission approved funding of more than $20 million to support low carbon transportation projects; about half went to Tesla Motors. The new award recipients are: Tesla Motors, Inc. Zero Motorcycles will receive $1,815,123 to expand the company’s full electric motorcycle production capacity.

The battery pack is comprised of 5,088 lithium-ion cells for a cummulative 35kWhrs of energy storage. These specifications sound strikingly similar to the electric drive and energy storage system found in the very impressive AC Propulsion eBox electric vehicles which also sport a 5,088 lithium-ion cell battery with 35kWhrs of capacity.
