The California LCFS regulation, which went in to effect on 15 April 2010, targets a reduction of the carbon intensity (CI), on a full-fuel lifecycle basis, of transportation fuels (measured in gCO 2 e/MJ) used in California by an average of 10% by the year 2020.

Most current bio-jet fuels consist primarily of linear or branched chain alkanes; they suffer from low densities (~0.76 g/mL) and low volumetric heating values compared with those of petro-jet fuels. As a result, most alternative fuels have to blend with petro-jet fuels to meet the energy density requirements.

The US Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center also has a tool which compares the annual emissions of an EV versus internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle on a national or state level. EVs require less maintenance and therefore have lower maintenance costs. They’re safer.
