The Department of the Interior awarded an initial $560 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to 24 states to begin work to plug, cap and reclaim orphaned oil and gas wells. The $560 million is part of an overall $1.15 Of states eligible for funding, 22 have been allocated $25 million each in Initial State Grants.

Linc Energy Ltd has acquired the grant of 181,414 acres of Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) coal exploration licences in Alaska from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority following a competitive bidding process. The gaining of this acreage marks Linc Energy’s entry into stage two of its Alaska plan.

Alaska state senator Lesil McGuire has introduced a bill ( Senate Bill 109 ) that would grant $475 million in state investment tax credits toward development of plants converting natural gas-, coal- or biomass-to-liquids products (GTL, CTL or BTL = xTL) on the state’s North Slope. —Senator McGuire.

The Port of Seattle, along with Alaska Airlines, Western Washington Clean Cities and US Representative Adam Smith unveiled a new project providing nearly 600 electric charging stations throughout the airport for ground support equipment (GSE) such as baggage tugs, bag ramps and pushback vehicles. The environmental benefits are substantial.

NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) is seeking public comment on a newly released draft environmental impact statement describing how offshore oil and gas activities in the US Beaufort and Chukchi seas could affect marine mammals and the Alaska Native communities that depend on them for subsistence.

The grant, one of the largest ever awarded to the university, will allow researchers to advance the scientific understanding of naturally occurring methane hydrate so that its resource potential and environmental implications can be fully understood. That is more than 250 times the amount of natural gas used in the United States in 2013.

The Kara Sea is part of the Arctic Ocean north of West Siberia. I can inform you about the discovery of the first oil/gas-condensate field in the new Kara sea oil province. The resource base estimate of just this oil trap is 338 bcm of gas and more than 100 million tonnes of oil [approximately 733 million barrels].
