The US Department of Energy (DOE) has issued the 2017 Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) Phase I Release 1 Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), including two subtopics focused on hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. DOE had released the original relevant topics in July.

Argonne National Laboratory’s Systems Assessment Center has released the 2020 version of the suite of GREET models and associated documentation. Fuel/energy options include petroleum fuels, natural gas-based fuels, biofuels, hydrogen, and electricity. Hydrogen and fuel cell vehicles: by-product H 2 from steam cracker.

The most recent GREET versions are the GREET1 2017 version for fuel-cycle analysis and GREET2 2017 version for vehicle-cycle analysis. Added wood biomass biofuel production pathways, considering carbon temporal effects. Added new pathways for by-product hydrogen produced from chlor-alkali processes.

Daimler is currently systematically preparing for series production of the Mercedes-Benz GLC F-CELL; the company had shown preproduction models of the hydrogen fuel cell SUV at the IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt last September ( Earlier post.). Through these gas ducts flows hydrogen on the one side, and oxygen on the other.

California can reduce carbon emissions by more than 70 million metric tons by 2030—akin to taking 15 million gasoline-powered cars off the road in one year—by adopting a higher target for its Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), according to an analysis released by the UK-based research firm Cerulogy.
