By combining diesel-direct, diesel-electric propulsion and battery power the vessel can achieve average fuel savings of up to 30% and up to 40% reduction of emissions. One additional clutch was been added to the vessel and a 230 kW water-cooled electric propulsion engine between each main engine and the rudder propeller.

There is also boating and fishing on Lake Powell, though the water level there has been much impacted by drought. Many, like myself, came mainly for the night sky in Utah, which has large swaths of land with minimal artificial light and a dry climate that translates into less water vapor, which can blur the stars.

The electron flow goes via the car’s lithium-ion battery, in essence keeping it charged, and recombines with the protons and oxygen at the cathode. The only by products are water and a fair degree of heat, the latter indicating a degree of inefficiency and wasted energy. So why haven’t FCEV becoming as prolific as other electric cars?

With the Audi MMI connect app, the smartphone can be used to remotely control charging and interior heating or cooling, call up the battery status and display data about past trips. The Q7 PHEV will arrive in dealerships in Germany in 2016, and will likely come to the US, although perhaps with a gasoline-engine variant.
