As part of the new plan, GM will accelerate the wind-down or sale of HUMMER, Saturn and Saab to the end of 2009, and phase out Pontiac by the end of 2010. The Pontiac brand will be phased out by the end of 2010. The revised plan moves up the resolution of Saab, Saturn, and Hummer to the end of 2009, at the latest.

In most cases, existing franchise agreements run through October of 2010. In its recent S-4 filing and updated Viability Plan ( earlier post ), General Motors said it will reduce its dealer network from 5,969 stores today to approximately 3,600 by the end of 2010. The first two vehicles available for AMP conversions are the GM Saturn Sky and the GM Pontiac Solstice. GM presented the study at the recent SAE 2010 Hybrid Vehicle Technologies Symposium. AMP, which currently up fits Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice vehicles, is targeting the Nissan Leaf, with its 100 mile range, as its closest rival. AMP, working in conjunction with a local GM dealer, is taking orders for the electric Equinox now, and expects the fully-converted vehicle to be available for a June 2010 delivery.
