GM has made three product commitments for 2017 related to its sustainability strategy: to have 500,000 vehicles on the road in the US with some form of electrification ( earlier post ); to double the number of US models that can achieve an EPA-estimated 40 mpg US (5.9 MWh/vehicle in 2010. Bob Lutz, former Vice Chairman of General Motors, will introduce an extended range electric (eREV) Pickup Truck, SUV and Van from VIA Motors, in a press conference at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit on 10 January. Bob Lutz, who retired from GM in 2010, recently joined the the VIA Motors Board of Directors.

The 2010 Fisker Karma will be the world's first production series hybrid , or extended-range electric vehicle, when it comes off the line late this year. Customer deliveries will start next May. Just prior to the Karma's German debut at next week's Frankfurt Auto Show , the company released emissions figures for the car.
