It has been nearly ten years since MINI took a significant, pioneering step with the MINI E ( earlier post ) and laid the foundations at the BMW Group for the development of electric mobility solutions to production readiness. More than 600 MINI E cars entered service worldwide for the purpose of the field studies.

The second generation of MINI, introduced in 2000, optimized the relationship between fun driving and fuel consumption, including the introduction of diesel engines. In 2008, MINI was a trailblazer for electromobility in the BMW Group. Electrified vehicles now account for 10% of MINI sales.

The web was buzzing last week with stories about BMW’s MINI E. To recap, BMW will be leasing 500 MINI Es from dealers in New York, New Jersey and Southern California starting some time early in 2009.
