A businessman and electric-car fan who imported a Tesla Model S into Singapore has had to pay an additional emission tax on the zero-emission luxury car.

Tesla Motors Inc. The Model S will carry an initial price of $57,400; applying the new $7,500 Federal tax credit for plug-ins will drop the effective price to $49,900. The Tesla Model S. Tesla says that rapid charging will recharge the battery pack in 45 minutes.

Since the launch on 26 March, Tesla Motors has taken 520 reservations for the Model S, an all-electric family sedan that carries up to seven people and travels up to 300 miles per charge. The Model S can be recharged from any 120V, 208V or 240V outlet or quick-charged from an external direct current supply in 45 minutes.

An empty Volt pack will take 10 hours to fully recharge; an empty LEAF about 20 hours. Recharge time will usually be much less than what it takes to go from empty to full. Surprising to many, including I suspect Tesla Motors itself, they found that about half the charging of Roadsters at home in the U.S. is at 120V.
