THINK, the Scandinavian electric vehicle maker, has begun production of THINK City EVs equipped with 22 kWh Li-ion battery packs from Ener1 subsidiary EnerDel. The EnerDel THINK City pack. THINK and Ener1 have been in active partnership for a number of years, developing and perfecting the THINK EV drive system and the EnerDel. Ener1 is an investor in THINK, and Ener1 Chairman and CEO Charles Gassenheimer is now THINK’s Chairman of the Board.

Itochu Corporation, Mazda, Family Mart, EnerDel and 11 other partners have launched a 3-year project in Tsukuba City, Japan—the “Green Crossover Project”—designed to showcase a real-world integration of the smart grid, stationary lithium-ion grid storage, electric vehicles, rapid recharging and renewable energy technologies. The project uses a 24-kilowatt-hour fixed storage EnerDel battery pack, originally designed for the THINK City electric vehicle.

Think makes breakthrough in Japan

Norwegian electric vehicle manufacturer Think Global has teamed with Ener1, one of its battery partners, to make a significant breakthrough in the Japanese market. Together the companies will supply a fully integrated electric drive-train powered by a lithium-ion battery system to Japan Post. It was initially developed for the Think City electric car - a three-door, two-seat electric vehicle that is powered by a 30kW electric motor.
