Groupe Renault is beginning the first large-scale pilot schemes in alternating-current, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging in electric vehicles. Following these, more pilot schemes will be introduced in France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and Denmark. The pilot schemes will begin in the Netherlands and Portugal.

A new European Joint Research Centre (JRC) study looking into the supply of raw materials for the manufacture of low-carbon energy technologies found that eight metals were at high risk of shortages. The applications, i.e. technologies, of particular concern as a result are electric vehicles, wind and solar energy, and lighting.

All surplus electricity can be used to charge the family’s electrically-powered Volvo or be used in the joint electricity grid. The solar cells are supplied by a manufacturer that is partly owned by Vattenfall. When the house generates more electricity than it requires, the surplus is delivered to the electricity grid.
