Mazda Motor Europe unveiled its new crossover SUV, the CX-60. The CX-60 is the first of Mazda’s Large Product group models, and offers (European specification model) e-Skyactiv PHEV, Mazda’s first plug-in hybrid system featuring a 2.5-liter liter e-Skyactiv X gasoline engine, both featuring Mazda’s 48V mild hybrid system.

Five Mazda engineers are receiving the 2011 Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers Medal for developing Mazda’s 1.3-liter liter gasoline engine with “Skyactiv” technology that allows an exceptionally high 14.0:1 mph US, 3.33 This is the seventh time Mazda employees have received a JSME Medal for New Technology.

Mazda unveiled the redesigned 2014 Mazda3 (known as the Axela in Japan) in a series of launch events world-wide. The new Mazda3 is the third new-generation model to embody Mazda’s new KODO Design and SKYACTIV Technology, after the CX-5 and new Mazda6. liter gasoline engine and a new SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter 2014 Mazda3.

The 403 hp (300 kW) prototype Karma Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) attained a speed of 100 mph (161 km/h), but used no gasoline as it made its way around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during the Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races. Behind the wheel was Fisker Automotive co-founder and COO Bernhard Koehler.

The gasoline-powered Mazda 5 small four-door wagon is rated poor. In the test, 25% of a vehicle''s front end on the driver’s side strikes a rigid barrier at 40 mph (64 km/h). Collapse of the occupant compartment is the downfall for four small cars in this group, including the Fiat 500L, Mazda 5, Nissan Juke and Nissan Leaf.
