Neste Oil has again expanded the range of renewable raw materials it uses by beginning to produce NExBTL renewable diesel from waste fat sourced from the fish processing industry at its Singapore refinery. After the fillets have been removed, the fat content of the gutting waste can be as high as 30-35%.

Neste Oil is the first company to be awarded an RSPO-RED Supply Chain certificate under the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil’s (RSPO) new, more demanding certification system. The certificate covers the production of NExBTL renewable diesel at Neste Oil’s refineries in Porvoo, Rotterdam, and Singapore.

Made from sustainably sourced, 100% renewable raw materials such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste, the use of Neste MY Renewable Diesel can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 75% over the life cycle of the fuel compared to fossil diesel. Rio Tinto US Borax used Neste MY Renewable Diesel during the trial.

Two pathways are for Renewable Diesel from Tallow & Animal Fat and one is for Renewable Diesel from Used Cooking Oil (UCO). The Porvoo renewable diesel (RD) plant uses mixed feedstocks to produce RD, naphtha, and a propane-rich off-gas. gCO 2 e/MJ. The RD produced is branded and marketed as Neste My Renewable Diesel.

Neste Oil has successfully started up Europe’s largest renewable diesel plant in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The Rotterdam plant has a capacity of 800,000 t/a and will increase Neste Oil’s total renewable diesel capacity to 2 million t/a. The plant was completed on-schedule and on-budget.
