Infiniti will introduce a newly-developed 3.0-liter The engine, the first in the brand’s 20-year history, will initially be available in both the EX and FX crossovers and later in the Infiniti M luxury performance sedan. Designated V9X, Infiniti’s new V6 diesel develops 175 kW (238 hp) and 550 N·m (406 lb-ft) of torque.

At one time, if you wanted a green, luxury sedan with great gas mileage, you only had a handful of cars to choose from from automakers like Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. Now there’s another car to add to your list: the 45 MPG combined, 2013 LIncoln MKZ.

It will come as a horrible shock to the driver of the pale green Infiniti QX56, but the 2-ton-plus full-size sport utility vehicle is not actually a hybrid. Nor, for that matter, is a Volkswagen Passat TDI--though it at least has a diesel engine, which gives higher gas mileage than the QX56's dismal 14 mpg city, 20 mpg highway.

It's not yet in dealerships, but the 2013 Lexus GS 450h offers a big boost in gas mileage for buyers of mid-size sport sedans. The all-new GS 450h hybrid is expected to be rated at 29 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, for a combined rating of 31 mpg.
