The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) has produced hydrogen gas using electricity generated from tidal energy in Orkney. EMEC said that this marked the first time that hydrogen has been created from tidal energy. ITM Power won a competitive tender to supply a system to EMEC back in 2015.

The Nikkei reports that Toyota will begin sales of its new hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (FCV), reportedly named Mirai, in Japan in December. The new hydrogen-powered Toyota is a front-wheel drive 4-door, 4-seater sedan. The two tanks store hydrogen at pressures of up to 700 bar. Fuel Cells Hydrogen Japan' Earlier post.).

For 2021, Toyota has fully rebooted the Mirai, originally offered in 2016, as a premium rear-wheel drive sports-luxury fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) with striking design, cutting-edge technology, more engaging driving performance and a significantly longer EPA-estimated range rating.

Japanese automaker Toyota may be renowned for its petrol-electric hybrid vehicles, but now it can celebrate a significant achievement with a fuel cell hybrid. Its Toyota Highlander Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle Advanced achieved an estimated range of 431 miles on a single full tank of compressed hydrogen gas.
