The 40 percent drop in new vehicle sales due to the recession created an acceleration in average age like we’ve never seen before. The youngest average age is in Vermont, where the average age of light vehicles is 9.9 There is simply a lack of 2008 and 2009 model year vehicles due to the lower sales numbers during that timeframe.

The governors of 8 states—California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont—have signed a memorandum of understanding ( MoU ) to take specific actions to put 3.3 US electric car sales in 2012 more than tripled to about 52,000 from 17,000 in 2011.
